Date a Mac Head

6 05 2010

Holy shiz.  Are you an Apple fanboy or fangirl?  Wanna meet others just like you?  Now you can.   Withe the Apple dating service.   Even though it sounds crazy, its not a joke.

For the uninitiated, the name is a combination of Cupertino, the California city where Apple Inc. is based, and Cupid, that love-mongering cherub that shows up every February. Apple fans have a reputation in the tech world for being, well, pretty fanatical. Some make pilgrimages to Apple stores. Others own nearly every product Apple puts out. When the iPad debuted earlier this year, some people waiting in line to buy it said they didn’t really know what it was – but they trusted that Apple would know what’s best for them.

Some people love Apple for its sleek, consumer-oriented products. Others hate the company just as much – dubbing its fans the “Cult of Mac.” (A blog has actually appropriated that name and made it positive).

Cupidtino says it started the Apple-fan dating site because people who love Apple share other things in common, too:

“Cupidtino is a beautiful new dating site created for fans of Apple products by fans of Apple products!” a message on the site says. “Why? Diehard Mac & Apple fans often have a lot in common – personalities, creative professions, a similar sense of style and aesthetics, taste, and of course a love for technology. We believe these are enough reasons for two people to meet and fall in love, and so we created the first Mac-inspired dating site to help you find other Machearts around you.”

X-Men: First Class Comes Out Next Summer!!!

6 05 2010

Kick-Ass may be just scraping by at the box office, but apparently its super-violent, not-that-commercially-popular handling of the superhero world has managed to score director Matthew Vaughn another shot at the genre. According to Variety, 20th Century Fox has signed Vaughn to direct X-Men: First Class. Because you know who should direct an important prequel charged with restoring the dignity of a once venerable franchise? That guy who violently satirized superhero comics and movies. Right?

Vaughn will work off a script most recently re-written by Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz (writers of Thor), based on a story by original X-Men director Bryan Singer. Variety describes the plot thusly:

[First Class] chronicles the beginning of the X-Men saga, before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto and when they were discovering their powers for the first time. The two men worked with other mutants (some familiar, some new) to stop a global threat. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.

The strangest part of the news is just how quickly this is all going to happen: the studio has given Vaughn just over a year to finish the thing, with shooting set to begin this summer for a release date of June 3, 2011
